Play Dough Recipe

Last year I was the “Play Dough Mom” for Wildman’s labschool class. Prestigious title, no? Every month I made dough in a different color for the kiddies. When you have to make play dough it becomes a hassle. But when you don’t have to make it, it can be fun! This recipe has a nice texture and is not very crumbly.

Cooked Play Dough

1 cup flour

1/2 cup salt

2 tsp. cream of tartar

1 cup water

1 tbsp. oil

1 tsp. food coloring

Combine flour, salt and cream of tartar in a sauce pan. Mix liquids together and gradually stir them into dry ingredients. When mixture is smooth, cook over medium heat. Stir constantly until a ball forms. Remove from heat and place on wax paper. Knead dough until solid and no longer sticky. Cool and keep in an air tight container.

We usually play with it one or two times before we toss it out and start over. I don’t want the play dough to become a petri dish or anything!
