Apparently I Have Cooties…

Last night a group of us got together for dinner, drinks and a chick flick.  Steph and I met the other two ladies at the Melting Pot for some fondue goodness and Love martinis*.  One of the ladies who joined us is Steph’s co-worker.  I had never met her before and found that she was really nice.  We all joked and chatted and had a great time.

After dinner we headed across the parking lot to the movie theater to see Bride Wars.  Once inside the theater, Steph led the way down a row to sit down.  I was behind Steph and the co-worker was behind me.  I sat beside Steph and the co-worker refused to sit beside me.  She put a chair in between us and piled her coat and purse on top of the vacant seat.  I jokingly said, “Um, you can sit next to me.  I don’t bite or have cooties or anything.”  She looked at me and flat out refused.  An awkward silence followed.  I looked at Steph and told her that her friend apparently didn’t want to sit next to me.  Steph ended up moving seats and sitting in the middle of us.

Do you find that strange?!

I was kind of taken aback by that behavior.  I didn’t do anything to offend her prior to going into the theater.  In fact, we were all laughing and having a great time.

Steph ended up talking to the co-worker (who had a hangover) this morning.  The co-worker told Steph that she hoped she didn’t offend me last night at the movie but that she has major personal space issues.  The co-worker thought the movie seats were narrower than they actually were which is why she didn’t mind Steph sitting next to her.  Um, riiight.   Sitting in the booth at the Melting Pot must have killed her then.

I still don’t know what to think.  I’ve never had something like that happen to me before.

Guess Who is Sleeping in a Big Boy Bed Tonight?

Yes, that’s right.  My littlest dude has graduated to a big boy bed!!!

It’s kind of bittersweet for me.  He’s growing up too fast.  I listed all of the baby furniture on Craig’s List this afternoon and already have 7 people wanting to come see it.  It’s sad to see it go but we need to move on.  *sigh*  I remember buying the furniture over 4 years ago when I was pregnant with Wildman and now we’re selling it.  It’s hard to believe that 4 years have come and gone.

J and I completely overhauled Cutie Pie’s room today.  We moved the baby furniture out to the garage.  J painted the lower portion of the wall a nice shade of navy (a white chair rail will go up in the near future).  He assembled the new twin bed.  Perhaps the biggest highlight for the boys was mattress shopping at Sam’s this afternoon.

They got to ride on the mattresses while we wheeled them around the store on a flatbed cart.  We got all sorts of comments from other shoppers.  Most people thought the boys were cute.  One guy gave us a wink and a knowing look when he commented on the fact that we were purchasing wine and mattresses… I told J to tell him that’s how we got into this mess.  Ha!

We bought two mattresses today.  One is for Cutie Pie’s bed and the other will be put into the trundle assembly beneath Wildman’s bed.  I’m excited to finally have an extra bed in Wildman’s room.  We’ve used the trundle drawer for storage for about two years.  I’m tired of storing toys they never use in there.  Now Wildman can have cousin T-bone over for a sleepover on the new bed.

A Fun Way to Serve Dinner

Since my other half is away visiting his grandparents and picking up Cutie Pie’s new big boy bed, I’ve been trying to keep the boys occupied.   Luckily, today was a preschool day (Pajama Day to be exact) for Wildman.  So, Cutie Pie and I ran errands until it was time to pick up brother from school.  We met some friends at a nearby park for a picnic lunch then came home so Cutie Pie could take a little nap.  Wildman and I did a few art projects, spray painted some wooden hearts for Labschool and played a his new board game.  When Cutie Pie woke up we played with Hot Wheels, built towers with blocks, set up a toy train, played with a sensory table and tried out some Thomas Colorforms.

I was running out of ideas to keep the kids busy by the time dinner rolled around…  I really wanted to cover Cutie Pie’s new sports table with the 20-gauge clear vinyl I had purchased earlier today. I opened up two of the new Diego play sets that Cutie Pie got for his birthday as a distraction.  The munchkins would want to assist me with the scissors and staple gun if they weren’t otherwise engaged.  Diego is always a good distraction.  That and remnant vinyl pieces…  Once the table was sufficiently covered in a layer of protective plastic Wildman declared that he wanted to eat dinner on it.  I saw no problem with it but I wondered what I could fix that would be a special treat for them to go with the new dinner locale.

Then it hit me- muffin pans!  The new silicone muffin pans would be perfect serving dishes for the boys.  Presentation is everything when you’re trying to get preschoolers and toddlers to eat.

I filled each cup with something different.  The boys feasted on drinkable yogurt, chicken nuggets, ranch dip, TLC Fire Roasted Veggie crackers, baby carrots and cheese sticks that I cut into disks.  Both of them cleaned their plates without much coercion encouragement from me.  Yeah!  I’m going to have to do this more often.
