School’s Out for the Summer!

I left two cans of shaving cream sitting on the kitchen counter last week to tempt Wildman.  Really I was just too lazy to put them away.  Wildman didn’t see it that way.  I’m pretty sure he thought I left them there to torture him… Because he remembered how fun shaving cream could be.

I had planned to let the boys play with it when we had time and they were bored.  Every single day that the shaving cream was on the counter Wildman asked me when he could use it.  By Saturday morning, he had worn me down.  I gave in.

“Fine!  Go put on your bathing suits and meet me on the porch for sunscreen,” I exclaimed.

In no time at all both boys were suited up and waiting anxiously for me to slather them in SPF 85.  They could hardly contain their excitement at the prospect of making a huge foamy mess!

I don’t know what it is about kids and shaving cream but it’s the best entertainment on warm, sunny days.  They occupied themselves for well over an hour.

They pretended to shave.

They gave each other faux hawks.

A quick jump in the pool was all it took to clean off.

I do believe that I’ll be stocking my cupboards with more cans of shaving cream.  The boys will want to do this again this summer, I guarantee!

Another One Bites the Dust

*****

Today was the last day of the 2009-2010 school year!  I know it sounds trite but I can hardly believe it is over.  The older I get the faster time goes by and I don’t like it one bit.  I want to treasure these days with my small children as long as I can.  Maybe that’s why I take so many pictures…

Cutie Pie’s class had a water fun day out on the lawn.  I stayed to help out and ended up getting drenched!  The water felt great since it was so darn hot out this morning.

Cutie Pie’s favorite toy was the wagon.  He hardly let it out of his sight all morning!

He washed it.

He took friends for rides in it.

When he did finally put the wagon handle down, Cutie Pie enjoyed shooting me and his teachers with the water squirter…

Toward the middle of the morning the children gathered on little picnic tables to have snack.  Snack consisted of adorable chocolate cookie graduation hats that a mother sent in, a bag of animal crackers, water and ice pops!  Whoa!  Can you say SUGAR OVERLOAD?!  Luckily the teachers sent the children back out to play in the water for a while to work off all the sweets they consumed.

Wildman’s VPK graduation program began in his classroom at 11:20am.  J met me there to watch Wildman and his classmates say the Pledge of Allegiance, recite a poem, sing a few songs, receive their completion certificates and preschool bibles.  It was bittersweet.  Even Mrs. H got choked up.  It was a good year for both of my boys and we are sad to see it end.

Of course ice cream sundaes with your buddies helps to ease the pain a bit 🙂

Last Week of School

As the school year draws to a close, I’m taking advantage of my brief, kid-free moments to enjoy some things that would be too difficult with two active boys in tow.  This was me on Monday morning at my favorite salon.  The best pedicures in town are done by Christine.  She’s meticulous and takes the time to do it right.  Christine also cut my shaggy bangs.  I’m trying to grow the rest of my hair out a bit but the bangs were driving me bonkers.  They kept falling into my eyes.

I didn’t have much time for fun errands on Wednesday due to last minute party preparations for Mrs. H’s surprise party in Wildman’s class.  But I did manage to pick up some amazing high heels that I will wear for our Girls Night Out to see Sex and the City 2.  I told Steph that she can’t go without me.  The movie is released when we’re in DC so we’re planning a fun night out for when I return.  I don’t have a photo of the shoes but I will take one soon and post it.  They’re too great not to share 🙂

Friday is it for the 2009-2010 school year!  As trite as it sounds, I cannot believe how quickly it has flown.  My oldest will be off to Kindergarten in August.  We’ve got to make the most of our short summer break before he makes the big leap.  Bring on the pool, play dates and water parks!
