Happy Harvest

I found this cute little autumn foam craft kit at Michael’s a while back and thought it would be a nice project for the boys and I to work on one day.

It’s nothing complicated- just 52 two pieces of foam to put together.  Most of the decorative pieces were peel and stick which made me happy that we didn’t have to glue anything.

Cutie Pie, Wildman and I put on some music last Saturday evening and got busy with our assembly.  It was a nice distraction from J’s obvious absence.  He’s on an extended business trip and our evenings are very quiet…

Our 3D foam statue came together in no time with me lettering the “Happy Harvest” sign and the boys doing the rest.  It now has a place of honor on the desk in our family room.

I love finding simple crafts that both the 4-year-old and 6-year-old can work on together without getting frustrated or fussing at one another!

Guess Who Came Home for the Weekend?

That’s right!  Buddy, Wildman’s class pet!  The boys could not be more thrilled to have a guinea pig at their house for the weekend.

As far as guinea pigs go, I’d say Buddy is pretty awesome.  I don’t know much about these guys since I’ve never had them as pets or been around them much.  But I’m super happy that he is quiet and does not bite.  The boys have discovered that Buddy loves grapes and have given him a couple each day.

I’m still not a pet person but I’m glad we had this little visitor for a while.  It was fun!

Homemade Cards

Last week I had the boys each make homemade cards for J, Papa and Uncle Chris for their birthdays.  I was impressed by how much time they put into creating each one.  I figured they would spend a lot of time on one then get bored and rush through the rest.  But that was not the case!  Each birthday greeting was hand-crafted with love.

And stickers.

Aren’t homemade cards the best?

I think it’s funny that Papa’s cake has candles coming out of the sides 🙂

Happy Happy Birthday

September is a busy month for birthdays in our family.  My grandmother, J’s grandpa, my father-in-law, cousin B, Uncle Chris and J all have September birthdays!

We celebrated birthdays for J, Uncle Chris and Papa on Saturday night with a pool party, shrimp taco cookout and a little college football.  Go Gators!

This year my father-in-law turns 69, J turns 39 and Uncle Chris turns 31!

It was a fun evening spent with family and friends.  Of course, my mom was super tense because Big Red was there.  She blames him for everything that happened in Steph’s marriage and cannot get past it.  But she was on her best behavior and I’m hoping that going forward we can just learn to let bygones be bygones.  Bitterness won’t get you anywhere.

I picked up J’s favorite cake for dessert- Cold Stone’s Mmmmint Chip.  Everyone said it was wonderful!  I did not have a piece because of the South Beach Diet thing.  I amazed myself with my willpower 🙂  Let’s hope this two weeks of restriction pays off…

While watching the Florida- Tennessee game replay, the birthday boys opened their presents.  J wanted a bottle of port wine and a fishing shirt which the boys and I were happy to oblige.

Happy birthday J, Chris and Papa!  Here’s to many more happy birthday to come!!!

Compost

This is just one more reason to love Wildman’s elementary school.  Wildman does not get much homework beyond reading for 1 hour each week but composting is an exception.  A mom with a passion for gardening has taken on the school grounds in an effort to beautify them.  Already she has spearheaded a butterfly garden, lots of lovely pavered pathways, raised planter boxes, a memorial garden and a sensory garden.  The place is looking pretty amazing.  I’ve noticed a mini greenhouse and a rain barrel too.  The latest project is rallying the entire student body to help with making compost to nourish the plants.  What could be more educational and fun?

So, I’ve dedicated a little black bucket for our compost contributions and the picture shows what Wildman will be taking to school with him tomorrow.  With all of the fresh veggies I’ve been consuming on the South Beach Diet, I have lots of deposits to make!

Happy Friday to you!  I’ll be going to yoga this morning, cleaning my house in preparation for a family birthday party on Saturday, heading to the boys’ flag football game and ending the night at my grandma’s birthday party across town.  I’m looking forward to it all.  Especially since J is coming home tomorrow morning too!
