Island Dinner Adventure

Our family joined Steph and Big Red’s family for an island hot dog cookout on Saturday evening.  After the boys rested from the Little League Opening Day festivities and I made a run to Publix for dinner supplies, we set off for adventure on the Banana River.  There are some spoil islands in the middle of the river just north of our local boat launch. They have really long sand bars that make great beaches for the kids to play on.

We took Big Red’s boat since it could comfortably hold all 8 of us and our stuff.  Our boat is a little too small for that many people.  We got to the island at about 4 PM and there was hardly another soul in site.  There was just one lone fisherman and is canoe on the beach when we pulled up.  He left as we were pulling in so we had the whole place to ourselves for a while….  Until a Bass Tracker full of dudes from the mainland pulled up.  They kept to themselves exploring the woods so it wasn’t a big deal.

The kids were starving not long after we got there so J fired up his little grill.  As you can see, three of the boys were intrigued.  Cutie Pie was busy filling up his buckets with sand.

The younger boys ate their hot dogs and chips on the cooler.  I forgot to bring plates and napkins.  Whoops!  At least we had some baby wipes to clean them up after dinner 🙂  I found that the boys ate more dinner when they didn’t have a plate.  Wildman ate his entire hot dog.  That never happens when he has a plate!  I might have to try the no-plate dinner thing more often…

After dinner, as the boys were devouring an entire package of chocolate wafer cookies, we were treated to a gorgeous sunset.

The air turned pretty cool as the sun went down.  Luckily, we brought warm clothes for the kids.  We bundled them up and headed for home.

It was a great way to spend an evening!  We made some great memories with our kids.  That’s what life is all about.
