Hello, Blog. It’s Me, Exhausted.

It’s 2 AM and I can’t sleep.  I’m tired, I can feel the tiredness, but I just cannot fall asleep.  My body is physically exhausted after teaching a class and then running the causeway this evening but I am unable to drift off.  Instead of lying in bed tossing and turning, I thought I’d update my blog.

This insomnia problem seems to be happening to me more and more frequently.  And I don’t know what to do about it.  It’s not like I went to bed and just could not fall asleep.  Oh, no.  I was drifting off just fine when J walked into the bedroom on his way to take a shower.  I was right on the brink of sound sleep when he came in.  It’s not like he barged in or anything.  He was very quiet, in fact.  It was the simple sound of the door opening that ripped me away from my trip to Dreamland and had me lying there wide awake.

I have to teach 3 Zumba classes tomorrow morning.  One is a 20-minute demo at Downtown Yoga (you should check out the website.  Our bios and photo are up) but still…  It’s a commitment that I need to honor tomorrow.  And I need to look alive and upbeat.  My alarm is set to go off at 6:45 AM and here I am typing away at the keyboard.  I’m going to be a brain dead zombie instead of alive and upbeat.  Sweet.

I’ve tried taking a series of deep cleansing breaths, reading my book, tensing then relaxing my muscles, clearing my mind, Tylenol Simply Sleep (which seems to have the opposite effect on me, by the way), counting sheep, you name it, to lure my body into sleep.  But nothing seems to be working.  Ugh.  It’s so frustrating.

Well, I’m yawning a lot now as I write this post.  That’s a good sign, right?  Maybe I’ll try to hit the hay once again.  Wish me luck.

Our Own Zumba in the Park

Last week we had a conflict with our Wednesday night Zumba class.  The room we’ve been using was double booked.  Instead of canceling our class or asking the other meeting to be moved, Steph and I decided to take our event outside.  The recreation center where we normally have class is surrounded by a large, gorgeous park.  The park features a pond with an observation pier.  The end of the pier opens up to a large area that is about the size of our meeting room and it has power.  It was a perfect spot for us to hold our class!

The weather was perfect too!  It was touch-and-go all afternoon but started clearing around 4 PM.  By class time at 6:15 PM, it was sunny and breezy.  We bought colorful balloons and a hung our Zumba banner from the railing.  It looked like a party out there, for sure 🙂

We had a nice turnout for the class.  Needless to say, we got all sorts of curious people checking us out.  I’m sure it was quite a spectacle for those who usually enjoy a leisurely evening stroll in the park!  We even had one guy openly stare at us at the end of the pier for half of the class.  Ha!

If you want to see our next endeavor, check out this link.  Downtown Yoga wants to diversify their class offering by adding Zumba to their schedule.  The Zumba button at the bottom of the homepage is us!
