Big Truck Day

Each year our city organizes Big Truck Day for the children.  Basically it’s a free-for-all, horn-honking, cab-climbing, bell-ringing extravaganza for little kids.  Wildman and Cutie Pie have loved each time that they have gone.

For one reason or another, J has always taken the boys to Big Truck Day solo.  I’ve either had a Zumba event or been out of town or had something else going on.  This year, though, the tables were turned.  J spent his entire Saturday traveling back home from a business trip to Los Angeles.  I don’t envy him that cross-country flight.  But I do envy the trip to LA…  Maybe I’ll tag along next time 🙂

Anyway, Wildman had an early morning t-ball game on Saturday which ended at 10 AM.  It was perfect timing because Big Truck Day was scheduled from 10AM – 2 PM.  After I passed out snacks to the team we headed over to the community center parking lot to check out all the cool trucks.

The boys immediately locked their eyes on the Publix semi and ran over excitedly.  Unfortunately, the cab and trailer were not open for the kids to explore.  What’s up with that Publix?!

The “Publix Loves Kids” sticker was small consolation for the truck being locked up…

Now the cement mixer was another story!  The guy who brought it was super nice.  He helped the children climb in and showed them how to pull the loud horn cable.  Then he gave them Tootsie Rolls.  He was a hero in the eyes of the children.

The city’s fire engines were a huge hit as well.  There were kids crawling all over them, ringing the bells, trying on the equipment, etc.

I’m not sure who brought the Arctic Cat pulling the jet ski but we had to visit it twice.  I could hardly pry my boys off of them.

The boys liked exploring the cranes as well but the height and sketchy footholds made me nervous.  I didn’t want either of them to make a misstep and plummet to the pavement…  Luckily, they held on tight and there were no accidents.

The backhoe loader was fun too.

We stayed at the event for little over an hour.  The boys exhausted themselves climbing in and on the big trucks.  Since it was such a lovely first day of Spring we decided to spread out a blanket and have a picnic in the backyard when we got home.  It was wonderful!

Little League Opening Day

Today was Opening Day for Beachside Little League.  Wildman plays for the Satellite Beach Phillies this season.  We lucked out and T-bone is on the same team.  They’ve grown so much since last year.

The kids arrived at 9:30 AM for individual photos…

and team photos.

Then the children got to play in and on the bounce houses that were set up.  The first order of business for my boys was the gigantic slide.  The Big Kahuna to be exact.

Big Red’s first order of business was to wander around on his cell phone with a huge 7-11 coffee and a bag of BBQ chips.  This is pretty much how you will see Big Red at any given moment of any given day…  He is super important, you know.

At 10:30 AM all of the teams marched over to the fire station to begin their parade.  The parade was lead by the fire engine.

J, Cutie Pie and I staked our claim along the side of the road to wait for Wildman.

The t-ball teams followed the fire engine.

After Wildman arrived at the ball field, all of the teams lined up for the Opening Ceremonies.

They looked so cute all lined up around the baseball diamond.

After the first pitch was thrown the kids were free to enjoy some lunch and the bouncy houses again.  My mom and Mimi showed up just in time.

More bouncy fun!

Just before we packed up to leave, the tug-o-war games began.  Wildman rushed over to give it a try.

It was a beautiful sunny Saturday morning.  Perfect for Opening Day!

Merry Christmas to All!

We just watched Santa board the Satellite Beach fire engine!  He’s headed back to the fire station to get in his sleigh!  Hope you all were good boys and girls this year.

From our house to yours, Merry Christmas!
