Getting Ready for School

Last Friday we took Cutie Pie to his preschool open house.  He got to meet his teacher who just so happens to be Wildman’s golf instructor.  She is absolutely wonderful!  Cutie Pie’s classroom is super cute and filled with all sorts of fun things to do and see.  I cannot believe that tomorrow is the first day of school for both boys!  The summer has truly flown by.

Today is Cutie Pie’s baseline assessment for pre-kindergarten.  Wildman and I are dropping him off for a 40-minute session with his teacher.  I’ll probably end up taking Wildman to Starbucks for a special treat while we wait for Cutie Pie to finish up.

Wildman’s 1st grade open house is today as well.  At 3 PM we’ll head over to the elementary school to meet his new teacher and check out his classroom.  Wildman will be in a split 1st/2nd class instead of a traditional 1st grade.  Half of the children in the class are second graders and half are first graders.  I’m not familiar with this sort of class setup so we’ll be learning as we go!

Also on schedule for today:

  • Returning our mountain of library books- the summer reading program is over for another year
  • Grocery shopping for lunch items to pack in the boys’ new lunch boxes
  • Picking up a prescription
  • Cleaning the house

Stay tuned for more back-to-school photos…

Another One Bites the Dust

*****

Today was the last day of the 2009-2010 school year!  I know it sounds trite but I can hardly believe it is over.  The older I get the faster time goes by and I don’t like it one bit.  I want to treasure these days with my small children as long as I can.  Maybe that’s why I take so many pictures…

Cutie Pie’s class had a water fun day out on the lawn.  I stayed to help out and ended up getting drenched!  The water felt great since it was so darn hot out this morning.

Cutie Pie’s favorite toy was the wagon.  He hardly let it out of his sight all morning!

He washed it.

He took friends for rides in it.

When he did finally put the wagon handle down, Cutie Pie enjoyed shooting me and his teachers with the water squirter…

Toward the middle of the morning the children gathered on little picnic tables to have snack.  Snack consisted of adorable chocolate cookie graduation hats that a mother sent in, a bag of animal crackers, water and ice pops!  Whoa!  Can you say SUGAR OVERLOAD?!  Luckily the teachers sent the children back out to play in the water for a while to work off all the sweets they consumed.

Wildman’s VPK graduation program began in his classroom at 11:20am.  J met me there to watch Wildman and his classmates say the Pledge of Allegiance, recite a poem, sing a few songs, receive their completion certificates and preschool bibles.  It was bittersweet.  Even Mrs. H got choked up.  It was a good year for both of my boys and we are sad to see it end.

Of course ice cream sundaes with your buddies helps to ease the pain a bit 🙂

Twas the Day Before Preschool

This is a tad off topic but I need to share this because I never remember my dreams:

So, I had a dream last night that I was a rookie dental hygienist in this very nice office. Except I hadn’t taken any form of training to be a dental hygienist. All of the other more seasoned hygienists got beautiful new offices with gleaming equipment. I was put in a store room for 1970’s office furniture. Picture tons of orange/green/yellow vinyl and paneling on the walls. My first patient was a middle-aged chain smoker from my Bunco group. After I set my patient up in the chair I ran out into the hallway to ask for help. How was I supposed to clean teeth, especially yellow smoker teeth, when I’d had no formal training?

What do you think that dream means?

Anyway, on to more fun things… Tomorrow is Wildman’s first day at his new preschool. I moved him to a new church because his old preschool did not offer Florida’s Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program. He’s looking forward to going and so am I. 🙂 Tomorrow is not a full day, just an open house for one hour. My father-in-law is going to keep Cutie Pie while I go with Wildman.

Today is a day to enjoy the last few hours of summer break fun before another school year begins. J set up the kiddie pool and Elmo sprinkler in the front yard while he was doing yard work.

Bucket Heads:

Running through the Elmo sprinkler. We’ve had this sprinkler since Wildman was 6 months old. I’m glad to see that he still enjoys it.

Crash! Notice Cutie Pie’s plumber’s crack…

This morning has turned out to be so gorgeous! Tropical Storm Fay is going to give us some nasty weather this coming week. I’m so happy that the boys can enjoy some quality time in the sunshine before being stuck indoors for a while.

J leaves for D.C. on Monday morning. I’m sad to see him go again but I know he needs to do it for his project. I leave on Friday morning for my SDV at Disney! J is supposed to be back on Thursday night but that’s when the remnants of Fay are supposed to be on top of Atlanta… He may not get a flight to come home until Friday morning. My boys may be spending the night with Nana and Papa (my in-laws) on Thursday night because I’m supposed to leave for Orlando at 7 AM on Friday. We shall see!
