Sea Turtles!

Our local Sea Turtle Preservation Society hosted an open house/fundraiser event today in honor of Archie Carr‘s birthday.  For those of you who don’t know, Archie Carr was a famous ecologist who was instrumental in sea turtle conservation.

The boys had a great time checking out all of the exhibits.  They were especially fascinated by the models of sea turtle nests.  Ping pong balls were used in place of real eggs.

Mara Uman Hixon, a local chidren’s book author and conservationist, was there to sign copies of her books.  There were two different books about sea turtles to choose from so I ended up buying one of each for the boys.  We read them tonight for our half an hour of reading for the library’s summer reading program.  It took me the entire half an hour to get through both books.  They were extremely informative and the illustrations were gorgeous!  I was actually quite surprised that the boys paid attention for both stories since they were so long.  That’s the sign of a good book I guess- when they can keep the attention of a 4- and a 6-year-old!

I hope to take the boys to the beach this summer to watch the sea turtles lay their eggs.  It’s such a cool experience!

Jog-a-thon

Friday was set up to be a stellar day and for the most part it was.  B and I had hot stone massages scheduled for the morning.  Wildman’s Jog-a-thon was at noon.  Space Shuttle Endeavor was supposed to launch at 3:47 pm (the launch ended up being scrubbed due to technical difficulties though).  And Big Red volunteered to watch the boys so J and I could have a date night!

I wasn’t so sure that Wildman’s jog-a-thon was going to happen as the weather looked pretty threatening all morning.  When I left my massage I was happy to see that the skies had cleared somewhat and the temperature had cooled down.  It was perfect running weather.  Not ideal for me since I was all relaxed…  But I promised Wildman I would go and run along side him.

J was able to take some time off work to join us too!

Wildman’s class before running…

Wildman’s class after running…

In the end, Wildman completed 27 laps in 40 minutes.  That means that we owe the PTO $27 since we pledged $1/lap.  I hope the kids were able to generate a ton of money for their school.  If Wildman’s friend who completed 50 laps is any indication, it was a very successful fundraiser!

Twin Day Tuesday

It’s spirit week at Wildman’s elementary school.  The PTO is trying to get everyone psyched up for the Jog-a-thon on Friday so everyday has a new theme.  The children were encouraged to wear their shirts backwards and/or inside out on Mixed Up Monday.

Tuesday was Twin Day!  As you can see, Wildman and his buddy dressed up in their best Mario Bros. clothes.

Even Wildman’s and T-bones’s teachers dressed as twins.

I didn’t take pictures of any day except Tuesday so I can’t show you how cute Wildman looked in one St. Patrick’s Day sock and one Christmas sock on Wacky Wednesday.  Today is Team Thursday so J dressed him up in a Gators t-shirt.

Like I said, Friday is the Jog-a-thon to raise money for the PTO.  The kindergartners typically run 20-30 laps.  Parents are encouraged to come out and run with them.  There are only two things that make me not want to run with Wildman tomorrow.  I have a massage scheduled at 10 AM with my friend, B, that will make me so relaxed and not ready to get out an run.  AND the jog is at noon which is getting toward the hottest part of the day.  It’s been in the 90s here.  Ugh!

You know I’ll be there jogging away though 🙂  I wouldn’t miss it!
