100th Day

Tuesday marked the 100th day of kindergarten for Wildman.  Can you believe that the school year is more than half over?  Wow!  I’m going to have a first grader on my hands soon.

As a fun project to mark this point in the school year, Wildman was asked to fill a water bottle with 100 things.  All of the things that a child chose had to be the same.  He chose to fill his bottle with pieces of bubblegum.  Some of his classmates chose pennies, beads, marbles, etc.  Mrs. Lacy weighed each bottle to see which was the lightest and which was the heaviest.  It was a fun little volume/mass science lesson.

When I picked him up from school, Wildman and his friends were each wearing these silly homemade crowns and paper 100 glasses.  So cute!  Wildman insisted on showing his dad his accessories at dinner last night so I made sure to snap a picture 🙂

Christmas Craft: Felt Ornament Kits

While out shopping for supplies for Wildman’s Super Mario Bros. party I stumbled upon two adorable felt ornament kits in the dollar bin at Jo-Ann Fabrics.

I put them in my cart knowing that they would save the day when afternoon boredom set in.  I was right!  The boys were looking for something to do a couple of weeks ago and the ornament kits came to the rescue.  Cutie Pie chose the gingerbread man and Wildman took the reindeer.

I set the boys up on some newspaper with a couple of bottles of white glue and let them have at it while I made dinner.  My only instructions were to keep the glue on the newspaper and try to make the kit pieces look like the package photo.  I think they did a pretty good job!  Sure the gingerbread man’s pants are upside down and the reindeer has a holly growth on its cheek but who cares?  The boys were entertained and I got to make dinner in peace 🙂

Fall Craft: Autumn Tree Window Cling

This is my first post after our home PC decided to commit suicide last week.  J struggled all weekend to recover our data and put it onto our MacBook Pro.  It was a herculean effort given how difficult it was to access the files and the fact that we brought home a new (to us) boat on Friday that required a complete fence rebuild on our side yard for yacht storage.  More on that later though!  Just know that it’s a miracle that I’m able to be Internet-functional today.

The boys and I worked on a simple fall craft today in the form of a cute autumn tree.  Cutie Pie got started this morning by painting two sheets of construction paper with washable paint in fall colors.  It took a long time for his artwork to dry due to the monsoon that we’ve been experiencing this week.  My plan was to have Cousin B make a tree too but the paint hadn’t dried by the time he had to leave this afternoon.

The idea is really simple.  I cut out a tree form from black construction paper.  Then I cut out a bunch of leaf shapes from the pages that Cutie Pie had painted earlier in the day.  Wildman helped us adhere the tree and the leaves to the sticky side of a sheet of contact paper this evening.  Then we stuck it to our sliding glass door.

Viola!

I give you our fall tree!  I love how it turned out!  It was a quick and easy autumn craft that I will keep in my mental file for years to come.
