Wildman made up his mind on Sunday night that he is big boy.
“Dad and Mom, I don’t want to wear a diaper to bed anymore. I’m a big boy.”
Wildman is 3 1/2 years old and has been daytime potty trained for about a year now. But the night time diapers were a necessity for a long time. He didn’t have the control or awareness to be able to stay dry all night. Lately, J and I have been discussing his readiness for diaper independence. To our amusement Wildman was the initiator, not us.
After Wildman made his declaration J and I looked at each other thinking that this was a huge step forward but also that this could also prove to be a huge mess to clean up. I assured J that I had plenty of mattress protection on Wildman’s bed in the form of a plastic mattress slip cover with a plastic-backed mattress pad on top of that. We made Wildman pee before going to bed on Sunday night and then held our breath until morning. Guess what?! He stayed dry! And has remained dry every night since! We’re so proud of him. And he is beaming every morning when he tells us that he stayed dry. He knew when he was ready. It helps to trust your kids sometimes 🙂
You don’t know how thrilled I am to be down to one diaper wearer in the family! Yahoo! Do you think I can get Cutie Pie on the underwear fast track?
