Teacher Appreciation

The preschool mom’s rotate doing a little appreciation gift for the 11 teachers and 1 director at Wildman’s school.  I volunteered to take on the task for November not having any idea what to do.  Usually, I have something in mind when I sign up for a thing like this.  This time I had nothing.  There are all sorts of crafts/recipes/trinkets that you can come with for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, etc.  Thanksgiving is kind of tricky.  I wasn’t up for making a boat load of turkeys or cornucopias…

I presented my dilemma to Steph last night at the little birthday dinner I hosted for our friend, B.   It turns out that Steph was having a similar issue with the nurses’ appreciation lunch that she was planning at work.  She had done a bit of searching on the Internet and came across an adorable paper pumpkin lantern idea that she thought would make perfect place cards when tags were added. I thought I could use this craft for the preschool teachers also.

Well, this morning I started experimenting with strips of paper and ribbon based on the pumpkin she’d described last night.  Here’s my prototype:

Please excuse the photo quality.  I’m using an ancient camera from my father-in-law.  It’s a total beast.

I think I need to add more strips of paper.  I used 12 strips in the prototype but I may need to up the count to twenty or more.  But, overall, I’m pleased with my pumpkin lantern.  What do you think?  Would you like me to post a tutorial?
