Stuck at Cantina Dos Amigos

Wildman was tasked with writing an original short story over Spring Break.  He had to write about an experience, person, place or thing he knew about.  A non-fiction book, if you will.  Each student was supposed to write the story at the top of the page (doing their best to sound out and spell the words), draw an illustration in the middle and the parents were to type the text at the bottom.  Wildman chose to write about the night my car battery died while we were out to dinner 🙂  Without further ado, here is his creation!

Warning: LOTS of pictures!!!

Zoo Day

Today is a day for taking it easy.  Wildman is at school and Cutie Pie is home with me.  It’s supposed to rain and I have housework to finish up.  Since we don’t have anywhere we have to be I let Cutie Pie stay in his pajamas.  I love days like this.

Part of my housework this morning consisted of vacuuming up shards of glass from our back porch.  The wind was so strong yesterday that my outdoor wall clock blew down.  I thought the face was made of plastic but soon found out differently.  I loved that clock.  You could read the time from the other side of the pool.  Now I’m on a mission to find a replacement.

The other thing I had to clean up outside was a huge piece of soffit that had apparently blown down over night.  That’s some pretty strong wind!  March has not gone out like a lamb…

Anyway, because we’re being bums today, I don’t have any fun pictures or stories to share except for our zoo trip last Friday.  By TGIF the weather had finally turned nice so B and I took our kids on a little field trip.  Much fun was had at the petting zoo and wading pools.  Dippin’ Dots were consumed with joy.  It was a lovely day!

Now I’m off to scour the Internet for ideas for fun summer activities for the kids.  I’m sure we’ll do a vacation bible school or two but I’m not sure that I’ll sign them up for swim lessons this year.  Both boys are very competent swimmers.  I definitely need to find a few fun things to break up the summer without over-scheduling ourselves into craziness.

Enjoy this Tuesday!

Beachy Sandy Fishy

We rounded out our Spring Break with some much needed beach time!  J arrived home from DC on Friday evening just in time to enjoy the gorgeous sunny weather.  After a week of violent storms (for us) and snow (for him), this outdoor time was perfect.

I did a lot of sunning myself (with plenty of SPF, of course)!  I managed to finish The Paris Wife and start Water for Elephants while lounging around on my beach blanket.  I enjoyed the first novel very much.  Ernest Hemingway is a fascinating character.  Larger than life, really.  I liked this glimpse into his early years with his first wife.  It’s historical fiction so I’m sure not everything in the novel happened exactly the way it was portrayed.  But I enjoy imagining Ernest as a young, tortured, brilliant, ego-centric young man.  I’m only 25 pages into the second novel but I’m already hooked.  I always imagine my great-grandfather when I read stories about the Great Depression.  So, I’m totally connected to this story right away 🙂

For three days the beach fishing went off!  T-bone caught everything from a bonnet head shark to a stingray to a whole bunch of whiting!  I caught a teeny whiting and an itty-bitty pilchard…  T-bone is definitely shaping up to be quite a fisherman!

J entertained himself with a bit of SUK-ing (Stand Up Kayaking).  It’s not a real sport but it’s his take on SUP-ing (Stand Up Paddle Surfing).  It was entertaining to watch him catch and ride the small waves to shore.

Each afternoon we’d return home sandy, soggy and exhausted.  A jump in the refreshing pool helped everyone to clean off and perk up again.  It feels like summer is here already!
